Over the past year, 86 crimes related to human trafficking were registered in Tajikistan. In particular, in 2022, the number of cases of human trafficking for prostitution increased in the country – compared to 2021, there were 14 more cases.
This is evidenced by the data presented at a press conference on February 15 by the head of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Shodi Hafizzoda.
According to him, there were 24 such crimes last year, 14 people were arrested on these facts.
He did not provide details about where the girls were “sold”.
Also during the year, according to Hafizzod, 9 cases of sale of children by their parents were registered.
“In addition, criminal cases were opened in 53 cases of illegal organization of labor migration, mainly to Russia. Such crimes also increased in 2022 compared to a year earlier by 23 cases,” he said.
Recall that the Decree of the Government of Tajikistan of 2019 approved a list of crimes related to human trafficking.
These include:
- kidnapping (points “b” and “c” of part 3 of article 130);
- human trafficking (Article 130 (1);
- unlawful deprivation of liberty (point “b” of part 3 of article 131);
- trafficking in children (Article 167);
- use of a minor for the purpose of producing pornographic materials or objects (Article 241(2);
- organization of illegal entry into Tajikistan of foreign citizens or stateless persons or illegal transit through the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan (part 3 of article 335 (1);
- organization of illegal migration (Article 335 (2);
- theft and damage to documents, stamps, seals (Part 3 of Article 339);
- forgery, production or sale of forged documents, state awards, stamps, seals, letterheads (Part 3 of Article 340).
