US President Joe Biden and NATO leaders have unanimously approved a “substantial” new aid package for Ukraine.
Amanda Sloat, senior director of the National Security Council for Europe, told reporters about this, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to CNN .
However, she declined to provide further details.
The alliance will also hold the first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council before Biden meets with Zelensky, whose agenda is “immediate and long-term support for Ukraine,” Sloat said.
Later Wednesday, Biden will deliver an important foreign policy talk about the strength and power of the NATO alliance, Sloat added.
Security guarantees at the NATO summit
The NATO summit is taking place in Vilnius on July 11-12. During the meeting, the member countries agreed on a joint communiqué, in particular, regarding the vision of Ukraine’s path to the Alliance.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is attending the NATO summit in Vilnius for three things: security guarantees, an invitation to the Alliance, and weapons. He intends to denounce these priorities with partners.
The G7 countries will announce on July 12 that they are launching individual talks with Ukraine to propose bilateral security commitments to enhance Kyiv’s defense capability and deter further Russian aggression.
The joint declaration will be announced on the sidelines of the second day of the NATO leaders’ summit in Vilnius, where the defense alliance agreed on a package of measures aimed at deepening ties with Kiev. The Allies promised many years of assistance to Ukraine; created a new NATO-Ukraine Council to meet later on Wednesday; and accelerated the process that would allow Ukraine to join NATO by repealing the MAP.
