The German defense concern Rheinmetall suggests that it will be able to open a tank repair plant in Ukraine by the end of summer 2023. Ukrainian Leopard tanks will be repaired at this plant.
This was stated by the head of the company Armin Papperger, according to Reuters news agency .
“Currently, we are already training Ukrainians in Germany for this work. We want to start work after the summer holidays,” he said.
It is assumed that thanks to the plant, the distance of transporting tanks for repair will be reduced; they will no longer need to be transported abroad, to Poland or Germany.
Recall that earlier ” Fleet 2017 ” reported that Rheinmetall will open a plant for the production of armored vehicles in Ukraine over the next 12 weeks . The company does not plan to take into account the fears of other Western companies that are afraid to open production facilities in Ukraine while the country is at war.
In addition, Rheinmetall is building a service center in Romania to service Western weapons that are used in the fighting in Ukraine. The enterprise will be located in the city of Satu Mare, 27 km from the border with Ukraine.
Russian terrorists tried to intimidate the company with a missile attack on their plant. In response, Rheinmetall’s CEO promised that the plant would be protected by the concern’s own air defense systems.
