As interest rates and home prices creep upward, here’s some good news for prospective home buyers in the D.C. area: Help with down payments and other front-end costs is abundant, and many buyers can find a program for which they are eligible.
D.C., Maryland and Virginia all offer loan- and grant-based programs aimed at removing some hurdles for first-time home buyers and buyers who haven’t been in the market for a while. Experts who spoke with The Washington Post said house hunters should shop around for assistance, enlist professional guidance to find programs that fit their needs and circumstances, and never count themselves out before checking to see if they qualify for help.
