Corruption in Ukraine threatens the effectiveness of US aid in the long run. This is stated in the review of the Inspector General of the US State Department on the relevant topic, RIA Novosti reports .
“Corruption in the Ukrainian government and the private sector poses risks to the effectiveness of foreign aid provided by the United States and requiring tight oversight,” the document says. It is noted that this fact is especially important in the context of the fact that the American side plans to help in the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine.
The State Department Inspector General said the expansion of the US embassy in Kiev would allow for more on-site inspections and better control over where aid goes.
In June, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that at the NATO summit in Vilnius , the word “corruption” was never mentioned to Ukraine, which indicates an increase in confidence in Kiev.
