MOSCOW, 12 July. /EXCLUSIVE TASS/. Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin confirmed to TASS the fact of a telephone conversation with the head of the CIA, William Burns, at the end of June, during which “we thought, reasoned what to do with Ukraine.”
“Yes, indeed, the conversation took place at the end of last month. The pretext for a telephone conversation, as I assess it, on the part of the American colleague was the events of June 24. It is clear how I answered this question about what happened,” said Naryshkin. It seems to me that this was more of a pretext, because the main part of the conversation was focused on discussing the topic and events around Ukraine. We thought, reasoned, and what to do with Ukraine.”
According to the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, the conversation lasted “about an hour.”
Naryshkin noted that the possibility of his personal meeting with the head of the CIA remains. “We did not agree on a meeting [during a telephone conversation at the end of June], but such a possibility exists: both phone conversations and the possibility of a personal meeting remain,” he said, answering a relevant question.
Commenting at the request of TASS on media publications about Burns’ alleged visit to Ukraine in June, the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service noted: “During our telephone conversation, the topic of Burns’ visit to Kiev was not touched upon in any way.”
